It is the concept of SANKOFA. "Sankofa is derived from the Akan people of West Africa(Ghana). The term comes from the words "san" (return), "ko" (go), and "fa" (look, seek, and take). Sankofa teaches us that we must go back to our roots in order to move forward. That is, we should reach back and gather the best of what our past has to teach us, so that we can achieve our full potential as we move forward."
This has been detrimental to African/Americans. In our schools, our student are taught that black Africans came to this country as slaves. But, it will seldom, if ever be said in a classroom, that the ancient Egyptians were black. Most academicians scoff at the truth I mentioned previously.
An education system that is viable, cannot be built on lies and omissions. The Monroe City School Board can do something about this with the help of the Monroe City School Superintendent, principals and dedicated teachers. There is a solution that may work, that came from Africa. Every student, especially African/Americans can benefit from it.
They call it pseudo-history. It is so easy to research, that I wonder why those who call themselves scholars, simply don't know or won't tell the truth? Anyone who does research should wonder if some scholars are ignorant or rather they have evil intentions. We were told about this by two great Americans.
Any time i ever had a question about something they would always be so helpful and kind.
Unless our city schools do this, our students in most cases can't achieve their full potential. There is an African proverb that says: "The creator of dance should not be excluded from it." This is, to say, if a group of people have a great ancient history, those people should not be excluded from that history. This is what happened to Africans, and Africans in the diaspora. "Excelsior and seeking Truth" is Wossman High School motto, which should be the goal of education.
Frederick Douglass said: "America is false to the past, false to the present, and solemnly binds herself to be false to the future." The other, writer, Richard Wright said: " Our too-young and too-new America, lusty because it is lonely, aggressive because it is afraid, insists upon seeing the world in terms of good and bad, the holy and the evil, the high and the low, the white and the black; our American is frightened of fact, of history, of processes, of necessity. It hugs the easy way of damning those whom it cannot understand, of excluding those whom it cannot understand, of excluding those who look different, and it salves its conscience with a self-draped cloak of righteousness."
Back in late January of this year, I contacted several Monroe City Schools to see if any would be interested in displaying framed images of ancient African art for Black History Month. I was only able to make an arrangement that was fruitful with one school. The others fail through. That leads me to my point. Federally, State wise and locally students have been let down and African/American youths in particular have been let down. False history in some cases has been taught, but in most cases it has been omitted or barely touched upon.
